Ignition, Steering — 7 Hrs — 34 Km
Set the commutator timing. There were some gremlins in the system that I fought for quite a while. One of the coils wasn't properly adjusted. I picked up the club's strobe spark coil tester and rebuilt the coil. The timing is now set properly. The number 4 spark plug appears to be brand new.
Pulled out the old 4:1 steering shaft. It was stuck in really tight, and I had to use a large dead blow hammer to get it to move. I installed the new 5:1 steering shaft, and it also fit really tight. I lapped in the new 5:1 gears with valve grind compound, and lapped in the bottom end of the drive of the steering shaft using time saver. The time saver will create about a 1.5 thousandths gap, and we'll only grind the surface of the bronze bushings. It can actually be left in. I won't do that because everything will have to come out again to be painted.
